B Let's understand

India boasts thousands of years of rich civilization, reflected in its magnificent architectural monuments and World Heritage Sites. The Taj Mahal in Agra, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan from white marble on the banks of the Yamuna River, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Red Fort in Delhi is a massive red sandstone fortress from where the Prime Minister of India unfurls the National Flag on Independence Day every 15th August. The Qutub Minar in Delhi is the world’s tallest brick minaret. In Madhya Pradesh, the Great Stupa at Sanchi showcases ancient Buddhist art commissioned by Emperor Ashoka. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protects these precious treasures, and every citizen has a duty never to scratch, scribble, or litter on heritage monuments.

C See it step by step

Example 1: Why is the Taj Mahal made of white marble threatened by pollution?
  1. Industrial smoke and vehicle exhaust produce acid rain and sulfur dioxide.
  2. Acid rain reacts chemically with pure white marble, causing discoloration and yellowing.
  3. The government created the "Taj Trapezium Zone" to ban polluting industries nearby.
Example 2: What historic event takes place at the Red Fort every 15th August?
  1. India celebrates its Independence Day on 15th August.
  2. The Prime Minister of India hoists the national tricolor from the ramparts of the Red Fort and addresses the nation.
