A singular noun names one person, place or thing. A plural noun names more than one. Most nouns become plural by adding -s, like "book" to "books". Nouns ending in s, x, ch or sh usually add -es, like "box" to "boxes". Some nouns change completely, like "child" to "children" — these are called irregular plurals.
