Counting forward: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!
Counting helps us find out "how many" things we have. We use numbers every day: counting our fingers, crayons in a box, or steps to the door. We count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and then keep going up to 20! When we compare two groups, the group with more items has a bigger number. For example, 8 apples is more than 5 apples. The number that comes right before 10 is 9, and the number that comes right after 10 is 11.
