A Today you'll learn

- Use describing words to add detail and imagery to sentences
- Recognise opposites in describing words (big/small, hot/cold, happy/sad)
B Let's understand
Describing words tell us more about our naming words! They tell us what kind, what size, what colour, or how something feels and tastes. If you say "a ball", that is good; but if you say "a bouncy, big, red ball", that is wonderful because we can picture it right away! Words like big, tiny, sweet, sour, hot, cold, soft, hard, green, and happy are all describing words.
C See it step by step
- Find the naming word: "bird".
- Ask: What kind of bird is it?
- "tiny" describes the size of the bird.
- Describing word: tiny.
- A lemon has a sharp, tangy taste.
- We say: "a sour lemon" or "a yellow lemon".
